LAS CHIMNEY

| LAS chimney |

An LAS chimney is a chimney passing through apartments situated above one another, and per apartment one or more gas-fired wall-mounted devices are connected into this chimney. No heating apparatus can be connected to a collector chimney, only gas appliances producing hot water for use in kitchens and bathrooms.
An LAS chimney consists of concrete blocks (40x40x25 cm) placed on top of each other, in which blocks there is an opening with a circular cross-section. The blocks are placed on top of each other to create the chimney duct. The diameter of the openings increases at each level, in steps of 175-200-225-250 mm.
Multikamin-FuranFlex® is produced in the required dimensions, its diameter gradually increases in the necessary lengths.
Today LAS chimneys do not comply with the latest standards, but there are tens of thousands of them operating in Eastern Europe. Their fault is that their natural draft is weak, often flue-gas flows backwards into the living space. The concrete blocks become corroded, gaps appear, as a result of which the flow conditions become even worse.
The smooth internal wall and heat insulating ability of Multikamin-FuranFlex® significantly improves the draft. This was demonstrated through measurements performed by ÉMI (Institute for Quality Control in the Construction Industry) before issuing the license for use. ÉMI measured the pressure difference between the stack of the collector chimney and the environment on the individual levels of a three-storey building. The measurement results (e.g. pressure differences in the flue [Pa]) are shown in the table below, where the draft increase is also stated in figures.

Heating apparatus can only be connected to an LAS chimney if a properly licensed ventilator is installed at the top of the chimney. The Multikamin-FuranFlex® lining is needed in this case too in order to ensure that the chimney is airtight.
When lining LAS chimneys we recommend the installation of the connections for the ventilator to be installed at a later date. |
